Caribbean Christmas sounds

Christmas is also celebrated big in the Caribbean. Everywhere you can see wonderfully lit houses based on the American example. Plastic Christmas trees are also widespread. And who doesn't have a suitable fir tree, just decorate the next palm tree.
On Sunday afternoon there was a concert by the local school's steel band in the neighboring shopping center. The ARC had organized a shuttle service and so we took our first major trip out of the sheltered marina and into the real world  The Caribbean interpretations of many well-known Christmas songs really get into your blood  Only the festivity is lost a bit. The little musicians definitely put their heart and soul into it.

A young lady didn't miss it, to take us personally to Santa Claus, who started his pre-Christmas duty on the first floor of the shopping center. This spontaneous and wonderful gesture was then rewarded with chocolate  The young lady truly deserved it.

Der Shuttle-Service, who took us so comfortably and reliably from the marina parking lot to the shopping center, Unfortunately we couldn't find anything for the way back  We were probably too early. So we got on the next “local bus”, a very common means of transport on the Caribbean islands. Basically it is a mini van with a sound system, the one with up to 15 passengers are loaded to the maximum.

Nothing is moving forward, or just gradually with a lot of patience. You're happy then, if only one message has left the computer. An email is more for advanced users, the blog almost impossible and pictures, only go at night from half past one, when everyone else is either still partying wildly or is already well-behaved in their bunks.
This was one of the first items on the to-do list, obtaining a local telephone card. The big provider here is Digicel and also has a sales stand on the marina area. On Friday we were both still busy getting there, that we postponed the purchase of a telephone card until the next day. The stand was closed on Saturday  and also on Sunday and the following Monday…..until today.

Already the way back from the shower rooms (fridge cold air conditioned) to the ship ruins the whole beautiful shower. Cool drinks are needed in large quantities, So we now often replace coffee with orange juice. Since we are still in the marina at the moment, Jumping from the ship into the cool water is not particularly recommended. But that will change shortly. We can now understand the relaxed attitude of the Caribbean people. Rushing during the day is simply inappropriate. It's better to sit somewhere in the shade and enjoy a drink. Unfortunately it gets dark in the evening, before it gets pleasantly cool again. That doesn't exactly make us more productive 
But we're slowly getting there. In our wallets we have East Caribbean (EC$) Dollars collected. Of course, US$ or Euros are also gladly accepted, But in some cases the conversion rates are rather arbitrary. You can easily get the impression, that there are “white and black” prizes. Not a nice feeling, if you have to question every purchase on the market in this regard. It's much more relaxed in the supermarket. Food is the same price for everyone  But at least everything is available here, what you need to live and a whole lot more. You just have to think about it, what is worth your pleasure.

Finally arrived :-)

On Thursday afternoon local time exactly 14:23 haben wir die Ziellinie überfahren 🙂

Aber ich falle gerade mit der Tür ins Haus 🙂 Also schön von Anfang an: The morning started cloudy?!?! We were in the wrong movie? The first look out was more like a dull day on the Baltic Sea than at our arrival in the Caribbean. And so then came today also our oilskins used. The second time on the entire trip. That would have been really unnecessary now.
On the last night we had left behind us a boat, but today on day brought two old acquaintances, SY COCO and the SY SIR RUDOLF steadily on. Shortly before Saint Lucia they were then passing us, without Dietmar`s racing ambition that could have prevented. Practically it then but, that we had to make any special thought to our rest of the way. So we walked around Saint Lucia's northern tip and followed the coast towards the south. The first big bay to Pigion Iceland we turned towards Rodney Bay Marina. Zuvor hatten wir die Ziellinie per Funk über unser Kommen informiert 🙂 Nicht, that you would have overlooked us.
In the bay, we were met by the crew of SY PURE ELEGANCE. Was für ein netter Empfang 🙂 Jetzt mussten wir nur noch die Ziellinie finden, what was not so easy in the confusion of the moored boats. Good, that we had salvaged the sails.

Next, we reported by radio at the marina and waited, that zuwies us a berth. First you had wanted to ship us without finger ridge between two other yachts, which would have been very unpleasant for us, because we can not leave our CESARINA almost impossible by her although very chic but also very long and narrow yacht stern. As we addressed this issue, we got a luxury mooring in the very “Great” zugewiesen 🙂 Die Stege hier sind für Yachten bis 100 Fuß ausgelegt 🙂 An diesem Steg sah unsere CESARINA dann direkt wieder niedlich aus. Especially since had moored on the other side of the ridge the SY BRAVEHEART, a Truly Classic from 75 Foot length. However, the two yachts are otherwise regarding color, Form und Aufbauten sehr ähnlich und wir fühlten uns gleich Zuhause 🙂

Traditionally, you will be welcomed by the team of ARC directly after arrival with a rum punch and a fruit basket. Actually a nice idea, but probably in many cases leads to, dass alle weiteren Aktivitäten an diesem Tag im mehr oder weniger volltrunkenen Zustand erledigt werden müssen 🙂 Das war bei uns auch nicht anders 🙂 So ging das Einklarieren und die anderen Formalitäten etwas im Alkoholnebel unter 🙂 Irgendwann war alles erledigt und die Zeit gekommen, treat yourself to a first Caribbean delicacies. It was a real treat, relaxing to sit when eating and to enjoy everything in peace.

Saturated and tired we fell into our no longer rocking beds. Alles Weitere wurde entspannt auf morgen verschoben 🙂

In the Caribbean – Endspurt

The last night has dawned. Our goal is tomorrow before nightfall the Rodney Bay Marina in the north of St. To achieve Lucia. It would be very unfortunate, when we the first Caribbean island after 3 May reach weeks at sea in the dark and see nothing of her beauty.

The last day at sea was a real treat. Sailing at its best with good 20 Knot winds and bright sunshine. All day long may only enjoy the mild climate and the harmonious movements of the ship in the sea. The grand finale then made dinner, Dietmar which has again drawn extra fresh for us from the Atlantic.

In our case, we have also prepared the country we are already perfect. So was extensively showered in the cockpit. The captain drew his “Two weeks”-Bart mit dem Rasierer zu Leibe und sieht jetzt gar nicht mehr so gefährlich aus 🙂 Ich denke, wir sind soweit 🙂 Wir wollen endlich wieder festen Boden unter den Füssen haben, sleeping in a bed, what rocks not 30 ° to the right and left in peace and enjoy a meal, ohne dass sie dauernd versucht einem vom Teller zu rutschen 🙂

I will now push so long guard, until we 100 Miles below the target. I will not miss me. To have available a double-digit distance information to the plotter again after such a long time, is certainly a beautiful sight. Then I can with a clear conscience to climb one last time in my Schaukelkoje and me the target “against” dream. Tomorrow we will make ever Vessel, because at the finish line in Rodney Bay pictures are taken by the incoming yachts.

In the Caribbean – The countdown is running

Only 250 Seemeilen haben wir vor uns 🙂 , then we are finally here. It's hard to believe, that we really over 2700 Seemeilen gesegelt sind 🙂 Die letzten Tage haben sich ziemlich in die Länge gezogen. Mostly the sun is shining and the day it is so warm, that it is better crumbles below deck. There is even hot, but you will at least not grilled by the sun. Our Bimini, the sun cover outside, Although there to donate honestly tried shadow, But the three of us together, it is not enough most.

Happily, however, the refrigerator has become so far emptied, that the drinks, find place in it. A place in the daily routine, the afternoon dose ingested sugar in cola form :-), but the anticipation of the investors beer in Saint Lucia rises by the hour.

Our autopilot, the Hydra, makes a very excellent job. For some time we walk directly towards Saint Lucia, while other boats trying desperately, to work its way in zigzag course from the wind crossing in this direction. The wind usually comes from directly behind. This is a course, with the many ships have major problems. But our CESARINA was designed for such courses and can not be dissuaded from cross seas because of their hull shape with its long keel off course :-). We therefore we can with the Hydra rates up to 175 ° control of the wind without risking, risking a dangerous jibe. This works so fantastic, Dietmar that can not even manage so well by hand. Und das will schon was heißen 🙂 So kann er dann besser ein gutes Buch lesen, which indeed in the long run makes even more fun.

On the Plotter today is night already clearly visible, that we are approaching Saint Lucia. Three other sailors and even two freighter drifting around just in our immediate vicinity. Since the vigils are also significantly more entertaining, because there is to see but stars also once again something else. Although, of course, nothing to sneeze at a starry sky over the Atlantic. So many meteors as in the last two and a half weeks, I have not seen in my life. And without all the light, we actually always have in the densely populated areas, it still looks much nicer, leuchtender und klarer aus 🙂

In the Caribbean – Day 11, 12 and 13

If you are not careful, the days go seamlessly into one another. Mostly yes does not happen so much and the days are distinguished only by the individual meals. Since I'm a little proud, because I have everything organized and alone except for Three Oranges we have ever had to complain no failures. We even for the third week even an iron salad Reserve in the refrigerator. Ganz ohne Gruenzeug waere das Leben doch schon sehr trist 🙂
On the other hand, we are happy but, that our days so “uneventful” are. Because no news also means no bad. So far we have no damages to the boat and Dietmar also pays attention especially on, keep it that way. If so, the “ARC News”, we receive sporadically via email, Followers, We are really well off. Two medical emergencies, several broken or damaged rigs and even a sunken yacht: the balance of this year's ARC is impressive in a negative sense. On weather it may not necessarily be actually, because that's actually quite enjoyable. At least everything seems to be so far off lightly. Good, that one is not alone out here on the road.

To lighten our humdrum everyday, has let Mother Nature a very special spectacle come to us today. Late afternoon sighted Uncle Tom whales right next to the boat. Dietmar and I took our cameras ready and had in the next half hour all the time, To make photos of the impressive animals. During this time we followed two of the three whales, surfed in the Wellenkaemmen behind the boat here or swam like dolphins in the bow wave. So close we are never approached to these beautiful animals. I'm looking forward to, submit the photos, when we arrived on Saint Lucia.

Tomorrow's second Advent and Nikolaus. I do not know, where to rausstellen my shoe, ohne dass er morgen nur voller Salzwasser ist 🙂 Mal sehen, ob mir da noch etwas einfaellt 🙂

In the Caribbean – Day 9 and 10

So we get to our destination faster ner. Already twice we have in 24 Scarce hours 180 Brought nautical miles behind us, and the distance to St. Lucia is now already below 1000 Shrunk nautical miles.
That is a good thing, because life on board is tiring. Most of all I am looking forward to my first meal ashore, which will hopefully remain voluntary on my plate, until I've eaten in peace.
At the moment it's different. The challenge begins with the preparation. On the stove is still everything safe, but woe to flt a plate and puts it unattended anywhere from. Despite anti-slip mat it can easily happen, that he developed plzlich own opinion. And if the dish is braked by the anti-slip mat, makes the mevoll zubreitete food halt alone on the journey. That's why we eat now actually getting out there in the cockpit. This has the advantage, that is much easier to keep it clean. It is not so easy, with one hand to balance the full plate and with the other hand the silverware, wend the CESARINA tries, a ball rocking of the Bank. But so far we are not starving and also the ship's on by flying plates or cutlery are limited.
But the amount of bruises has increased significantly in recent days but. If we lift our legs apart against the wave motion, we give probably a funny picture from. But otherwise it is not easy, no matter how silly it looks well.
Dietmar supplied us with fresh fish verlslich. Ff Angel attempts with four successes. That is impressive safely. Today it was again a shear Mahi Mahi, will bring us a delicious dinner. But until nhsten week fishing ban was once again verhgt.
