Finally on the road

Today we have with Kathrin, Jörg and Vincent from SY Via arranged to go on a shore excursion. How exactly we wanted to move on land, was not quite clear to us yet. The first idea, take a rental car, we then discarded it again very quickly. Jörg had courageously made himself available as a driver, but it should be a nice day for everyone. And to move a car in the chaotic left-hand traffic of Saint Lucia, was certainly not a pleasure.
So in the first step we decided to take the “local bus” to Castries, the island's capital. Here we were immediately identified as tourists  and we quickly got the first offer, to continue the rest of the excursion comfortably and comfortably by taxi. Only the price was far from acceptable for us. So we went on towards the bus station, where we wanted to look for a bus to our destination. But our taxi driver didn't let himself be left behind that quickly and followed us in his van. Because our price expectations could not be reconciled with those of the driver, he looks for another driver for us, who accepted our price. Strange customs here, but since all somehow related, are related by marriage or at least friends, one hand washes the other.
So we sat in a fairly new and well-maintained minivan and made our way to Soufriere. Here we wanted to visit the volcano first and then the botanical gardens. On the way there was a photo stop at the Pitons, the landmark of the island of Saint Lucia planned.
Like many of the Caribbean islands, Saint Lucia has an active volcano. Most of the time you can smell it before you see it  because sulfur fumes escape all the time. And that's just as well, because in this way no overpressure can build up, which would lead to a new eruption. We skipped the bath in volcanic mud water recommended by our driver and guide, after seeing the tiny pool and the many bathers. Then you better just take the walking tour around the smoking mountain with its seething mud holes - very impressive 
We continued comfortably to our next stop, the botanical garden. Here you could comfortably admire many of the tropical plants in a confined space, that grow so beautifully and colorfully all over the island. Some of the birds too, which are based on Saint Lucia, we could see. A hummingbird, which are usually of the fast and hectic kind, I turned out to be a star model and patiently sit for as long as you like, until the last photo was in the box 
Then it went back to Castries in a fast driving style  It was about time, because it was already late afternoon and our stomachs hung in the hollows of our knees. The VIA crew had a good tip for a nice, simple restaurant in the market hall. But unfortunately we were too late and there was nothing left to eat. After some searching we found a bar, the three more chicken rotis (These are thin pancakes, which are filled with a chicken curry with vegetables and potatoes .) had left for us. That wasn't much, though, but better than nothing  and they tasted delicious.
When we finally got back to the marina with the local bus, we were all pretty exhausted. Somehow we seemed a little out of practice and the high temperatures gave us the rest. So we spent the evening lazy on our CESARINA. I would rather have a visitor for tomorrow. Thorsten and Hille from SY INFINITY, with whom we traveled together for a long time last year, were on their way to Saint Lucia from Trinidad. We were really looking forward to tomorrow 
