New experiences

On Saturday we had apparently promised you something rashly, that we keep time even while crossing the blog via shortwave to date. But once again, everything went exactly as planned.

Right on time at ten clock after a relaxed breakfast, the final preparations and goodbyes we threw the cast off and waited to third on the opening of the pedestrian bridge, separated the marina of Lagos from the Atlantic. Outside awaited us in the sunshine optimum sailing conditions and after a short time we glided under sail relaxed then. As predicted the wind steadily increased and as we rounded the Cabo de São Vicente nor was added at the final wave of the open Atlantic.

After two weeks of rest in the harbor struck me rocking something on the stomach. Especially the high, steep wave transverse to the direction of travel was really getting used to. So I retreated below deck, to counteract the problem with a nap. Das hatte bisher immer geholfen 🙂

But somehow I was fighting a losing battle on this day. Nap or not - this time it did not help. And a short time later I met one of our household items appreciate lovingly: den blauen Mehrzweckeimer 🙁 Genauere Details möchte ich Euch an dieser Stelle lieber ersparen. The next 36 Hours was the bucket definitely my constant companion.

Dietmar let the rocking again completely unaffected. Gut so, for he had now all hands full, there was not really what to do with myself.

Meanwhile, we still ran with reefed genoa and reefed Great to seven knots of wind force six, gusts even seven. The three meters high waves pushed us time and again off course and our autopilot had a tough job, but he reliably completed.

Good, I had pre-cooked in Lagos, so had to Dietmar not starve at least. Eating warming he can that is already perfect. At least part of the night guard I was able to take. Sleeping was not even thinking anyway. So Dietmar got least little bit deserved night's rest, while I sat with my blue bucket in the cockpit and brought the next morning wish.

Over the next day I had a bit "Rocks" me. The first culinary delights (Tuc biscuits and mashed potatoes) I had not let me go twice through the head. After what felt like an eternity (36 Hours can be really long) I was back on the road to recovery. In addition, wind and wave was significantly reduced. We could shake out a reef the sails and stowed Dietmar various things back under cover, who had been freed in the rocking and distributed in ship.

The second night was calm and relaxed. The wind was constant in magnitude and direction and went on board a rest. Unfortunately, I was looking forward too soon and for me the third day began with a relapse. Again, I was below deck and could not mucksen me. I would cry out of sheer anger can. Dietmar had on my disastrous state probably already used to it and bore it with composure.

But this crossing was eventually to an end. In the sunrise, we were finally able to make out the silhouette of Porto Santo. Clouds hung over the barren volcanic island with its steep mountains and rugged cliffs. As we wanted to reconcile nature for the last three days, jumped shortly dolphins around the boat and offered us off the island setting is a beautiful sight.

When we two hours later long before the, Hellen Strand von Porto Santo vor Anker lagen, had the threatening, warped gray clouds and the water shone bright blue in the sun. Angekommen 🙂 Jetzt erst mal frühstücken – endlich 🙂

We make a holiday too

Finally arrived in the south of Portugal, we made the, what many other people do here also: Holiday! The first day included a beautiful dinner with the family Lachaise from Bavaria was a great introduction.

So it should go. We splurged for two days in very luxurious (and expensive) Marina in Lagos, to the radar problem to finally get a grip. In addition, other friends had announced their. Even at noon made the MENTOR and the CAYLUNA in Lagos their lines fixed. For the evening we reserved this time a table for thirteen people in one of the restaurants on the harbor promenade. The round was getting bigger and funnier. After the dishes were eaten empty and the first have slowly withdrawn from the round on the boats, but we had not had enough and went to five more on the JOY OF LIFE, around the dinner there damp-merry (naturally without the small Alia) to end. On Thursday evening our port wine inventories had for the first time "believe in it". So we invited to a private wine tasting and spent again a fun evening with Jana and Lars on the JOY OF LIFE. Good, that the port for dinghy driver no alcohol checks are carried out. That would certainly become scarce.

On Friday there was still no news of our radar, that was now before at RAYMARINE in Lisbon. Then over the weekend, no further progress was expected, we decided, to put us at anchor off the beach of Lagos. But before we visited the city yet a visit. After four months here was a chance, to be able to thoroughly enjoy German bread and cakes again, because there was a German Bakery. Despite the city map we needed but some time, until we had circled and discovered. But then we could Bavarian apple strudel, Not escape spelled wholemeal bread and Black Forest gateau. Loading hard it went back from our SUMMER. Now we have to endure at least a week at anchor, ohne zu verhungern 🙂

We found out in front of the beach a nice place to anchor. Our SUMMER rocked despite calm sea, although quite strongly from one side to the other, as we turned the flow always transverse to swell. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the peace and tranquility. We spent the evening again on the JOY OF LIFE and discussed about God and the world. The evenings together we will certainly miss her very much, when the three will soon adopt before your trip across the Atlantic to the Caribbean from us. So we use but still every opportunity.

On Saturday, yet the MENTOR joined us and in the afternoon we took the dinghy clear about the trip to the caves before Lagos. In the city we have repeatedly seen various agencies, offered these trips, but we wanted better without "guide" go on the road.

For dinner we had arranged to meet in the connector on the JOY OF LIFE (as always :-)) with a pretty casual menu-planning: Everyone brings dinner with, which he had planned for his ship and at the end we had a decent buffet on the table. So we ate together very delicious and varied and the evening was once again a resounding success. We had particular fun with the little "Baby Animal" Alia, das unter dem Tisch hauste und uns reihum mit gekonntem „Füße kitzeln“ zum Lachen brachte 🙂

Sunday we spent for a change alone. The MENTOR made their way eastwards. We took the dinghy again to Lagos, a little stroll and drink coffee. Of which could prevent us from not even the rain, the quite violent came from heaven in between. Because as soon as he came, as fast as he disappeared again and the sun made a few minutes later the puddles disappear.
