Unser Hotel lag irgendwo im Nirgendwo, idyllisch an einer Hauptstraße und hatte auch sonst alles, was ein charmantes amerikanische Motel so haben muss. Der erste schäbige Eindruck des Gebäudes von außen, setzte sich nahtlos im Innern fort 🙂 Es gab nicht mal einen Aufzug und wir schleiften unsere 60 Kilo Gepäck mit Begeisterung über den geschmackvollen Teppich aus den70er Jahren. Aber für nur eine Nacht geht ja fast alles. Nur den Abend wollten wir hier nicht unbedingt verbringen.

Nicht weit entfernt hatten wir eine Brauerei gesehen, die auch ein Restaurant dabei hatte. Gemütlich und einladend sah das Ganze aus. So ließen wir den Abend in netter Umgebung gemütlich ausklingen und nach einer Bier-Probe der lokal gebrauten Biere (mit bis zu 11,9 % Alkohol) Our domicile didn't seem so terrible to us afterwards.

The next morning it rained cats and dogs. A little unmotivated we went to breakfast. Rain was not included in our round trip plans. But since it is known that the weather is not bad, but only bad clothes, we didn't let it slow us down and made our way to our next destination: dem Chanterbury Shaker Village.

Once there, the heavy rain had turned into drizzle and we began our journey through time. The village became 1792 founded and is then 200 been inhabited for years. 1992 the last resident died. The Shaker sect had split from the Quakers and lived their lives of faith in strict seclusion and celibacy, was dann letztendlich zu Ihrem Niedergang führte. Es gab 2009 nur noch eine aktive Shaker-Gemeinde in den USA mit drei Mitgliedern. Ob das heute noch so ist, konnte Wikipeda mir leider nicht verraten.

Das Dorf ist als Museum für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich und man kann viel über das Leben und vor allem über die Handwerkskunst der Shaker erfahren. Am Nachmittag stand noch mehr Geschichte auf dem Programm, denn wir besuchten Portmouth, Amerikas drittälteste Stadt (1623). Endlich waren wir wieder am Meer angekommen 🙂 Das hatte uns ja schon ein bisschen gefehlt.

Wir besuchten das Strawberry Banke Museum, das auf 4 Hektar Grund viele alte Gebäude zeigt. Here you get a glimpse into life from a bygone era. We strolled around the harbor and in the city. Many sailors anchored here. Perhaps we would also stop here on the way south with the CESARINA.

We followed the coast road 1 further north. Now we were back in Maine and in two days we would be back at our CESARINA. Let's see, how far the work would have progressed.
