We swim again

Whether our CESARINA would actually get back into the water was still uncertain during Friday. But in the afternoon, despite the prevailing Friday afternoon - after-work mood, the crane arrived as planned and we set off on the long journey to the water. It's a short hike even on foot, but with the crane it felt like it took ages. And I don't know any boat owner who likes to see their boat hanging in the boat lift. That's why Dietmar decided, Better to wait at the dock for the CESARINA to arrive. I was given the instruction: “Take some nice photos” left behind at the boat :-). No problem, then I'll just do it:-)

When we arrived at the water, we were allowed to climb back on board using a long ladder. I just can't say it any other way, but I hate it. Boats and ladders just don't mix for me. Then the crane drove us to the end of the jetty. Here we had enough water depth when the tide was coming in and a short time later our CESARINA was rocking in the waves again. That was somehow quite unusual. Good, that we had a quiet day. After such a long time you have to get used to it again. Still hanging in the loops of the boat lift but already in the water with the underwater hull, the machine was started and tested. After some fine tuning it ran like clockwork again. So we were able to safely drive to the end of the pontoon and tie up there.

The end of work then began for the employees of the Hinckley shipyard. Things looked a little different for us. There were so many things to do now. Fill water tanks and vent pipes. Turn on the boiler for warm water (very important :-)) Put the seawater toilet back into operation. Start the generator and see, whether he still shows any signs of life. The sails also had to be put back on board, so that we could start striking them straight away tomorrow morning. There was a lot of wind forecast for later. So the rest of the afternoon flew by and after a cozy dinner we were looking forward to a quiet evening.

So we cleared a corner of the couch in the living room and sat together peacefully, when the bilge alarm went off at half past eight. That was probably it for the relaxing evening.

The floorboards were quickly put aside again and work on the “guts” of our CESARINA continued quickly. Finally the new bilge pump was connected and ready for operation. So if a bilge alarm were to wake us up again this evening, We were definitely prepared.

The electrician struggled desperately with our anemometer. He had somehow forgotten during the long time without work, where west and where east is and now shows these two directions in mirror image. Although all cables were checked and measured, Our anemometer remained with its strange views for the time being. Sometime late in the afternoon everyone left for the weekend. During the morning we had installed both furling systems and put up the sails, just in time before an uncomfortable wind began to blow. But the sprayhood also had to be set up and our bimini. There were also countless things on land, that still wanted to be stowed away somewhere in the belly of the CESARINA. But at some point we ran out of steam and we were finally hoping for a quiet evening today.

Our wishes were heard and surprisingly we didn't wake up until after nine o'clock on Sunday. Nature had already turned on the light outside, but apparently she had done it so carefully and quietly, that we had completely missed it. When the light came on in our hall in the morning and the fat halogen spotlights began their work with a loud hum, In any case, it never went unnoticed. Today we wanted to go shopping in the Hinckley truck again, because next week it should continue. As we pushed our shopping cart through the supermarket aisles, the world ended outside: Rain pouring down in buckets and a strong thunderstorm with lightning and thunder made Sunday very uncomfortable. We were suddenly faced with the problem, where we should store our purchases. The pick-up is a huge vehicle, but there are only two seats and some storage space in the rather small driver's cab. With five of the thick shopping bags together, it became pretty cozy inside, But they didn't want to leave the things in the back of the truck bed in the rain.

Fortunately, back at the shipyard the rain had stopped and we were able to get our things under deck quite dry. Unfortunately it wasn't that dry there, as we had hoped. A small puddle had formed in the foredeck. Totally annoyed, Dietmar had to go back to troubleshooting. So the quiet Sunday afternoon came to nothing. When we tested the possible leaks with the water hose, the mood had reached a low point.

Actually, it couldn't get any worse, or??? It could. When our wastewater pump blew up the wastewater hose with a loud “pop” because of a closed seacock in the engine room, instead of dutifully pumping the wastewater outside, I took flight. Während sich Dietmar mit Kopflampe bewaffnet dem nächsten Problem zuwendete, ging ich lieber Wäsche waschen. Das war einfach und klappte auch wie immer 🙂
