A buddy tour or pirates set sail

On time like the bricklayers 21.45 stood my old friend Maik with his red travel bag in front of the gangway of our CESARINA. After a big "hello" we ended the evening with a beer in the cockpit. Before that, he quickly swapped the long trousers for a short one and deposited the shoes in our quarantine box on deck until the end of the journey. When it comes to warmth, flip-flops are absolutely sufficient. Since Maik is the last 24 Hours flew across the United States, to come here, he was of course finished and ready for bunk.

The next day was the first short trip to Iles Le Saints to get used to. Maik and his wife Sabine have been attending evening school in California for almost a year, to get her sailing license there. After the first few miles it was clearly visible, that it wasn't his first trip on a sailor. So I let him go almost the entire distance 24 Nautical miles the CESARINA steer and he apparently enjoyed his job very much. Despite or because of their size, it is sometimes not that easy, doing everything right. All maneuvers went well and confidence in my co-skipper grew. After all, I have hardly given the helm of my darling out of hand. In the end we found a brilliant anchorage and looked back on the exciting day, before we disappeared into the bunks late at night. Something like that is called a successful start.

The next morning the dinghy was taken to the beach at Bourg des Saintes, because we wanted to have a look around the island. The trip lasted a good five hours. We hiked to the western tip of Le Saints and felt like it, that the island is populated by free-range goats and dogs. On the water side, countless pelicans dominate the bays and hunt for fish in quite spectacular swoops. At the end it was then still the quite steep and long way up to the fortress "Fort Napoleon". Thank goodness hardly any of the crusaders will run up there on foot. So we had a lot of time and peace to enjoy the wonderful view over the island and the sea. At the end we bought some fresh tomatoes and some vegetables. To my great joy, Maik had given me, that he likes to cook and would also like to take on the job on board. Otherwise it would only have fried eggs during the week, Yogurt and beer from the galley given to J

We anchored at nine o'clock on Monday, because there was a trip to the west coast of Guadeloupe to Pigeon Island. Against 13:00 we dropped anchor about half a mile off the beach at Petit Malendure. The focus here is clearly on diving. In the village, a dozen diving centers offer excursions to the “Costeau Reef”. It was named after the famous French marine explorer Jack Costeau. Class, when people understand more and more, that it is much more sustainable, to earn a living with the beauty of nature, catch the last fish and destroy the reefs. So we booked a dive for the next day. Maik is a very good diver and we were both very surprised by the beauty of the underwater world in the warm and crystal clear water. Countless different types of coral and colorful tropical fish made the dive an impressive experience. Unfortunately, the pictures with my new wide-angle lens didn't turn out so well, because I had unfortunately forgotten to let the air out of the cavity of the camera housing and the lens. Will not happen to me again.

IMG_5382

But that wasn't the only highlight of the day. We decided, Sail to Falmouth Harbor / Antigua overnight. The wind should turn north from Thursday until the end of the week and then we would have had a hard time, to get to Antigua by Saturday, so that Maik can reach his plane. The weather forecast predicted very weak winds and so we expected a journey time of eleven to twelve hours for the route of 55 Nautical miles. Shortly after dark we anchored and set sail. Good, that we had practiced these maneuvers again and again before, because at night every move should be perfect. Maik steered the CESARINA out of the bay and then headed north. A night trip for a novice sailing enthusiast could hardly have been more impressive than that night. The starry sky was overwhelming and the CESARINA glided gently through the water. Since you don't see much, the ears suddenly turn into eyes and address the senses in a completely different way. The wind freshened up and out of the planned 5 Cruising speed knots were then 7,5 to 8,5 Knot speed. For me it is always a great feeling to feel, how much security and strength our CESARINA conveys. Apparently Maik felt the same way, because he just couldn't find rest. Trust in him meanwhile let me sleep deeply and soundly in the bunk for an hour, completely relaxed. In other words, he had passed his probationary period J

IMG_5493

The unexpectedly high speed resulted, that we were standing in front of the entrance to Falmouth Harbor at two-thirty at night. The manual expressly warns against entering the bay at night. Shallows and unlit objects mean a risk that should not be underestimated. If I hadn't been here before, I wouldn't have made the passage either. After a short time we were safely anchored and we were soon able to go pounding with peace of mind.

IMG_5494

On Thursday we took the local bus to St. John and took a tour of the city. We also visited the local museum. The sad story of slavery in particular bothered us both. How cruel people can be. When I think of the current situation in Germany, where the many deeply inhuman posts about refugees appear on Facebook and the like, I am particularly ashamed. That afternoon I wished, that exactly the comrades should get an idea here on site, how well we are in Germany. But I'm afraid, that would be "spoken in the wind".

On Friday we sailed towards Jolly Harbor and dropped anchor in Deep Bay. I would know, that the SY LONI 3 would also be here with Eckhard and his wife Loni. We sailed across the Bay of Biscay together and have kept in touch ever since.

IMG_5516

Because of our draft of 2.60 m, we had chosen an anchorage in deeper water and I was a few hundred meters across the bay to the anchorage of the LONI 3 swam. Eckhard had created a sundowner to welcome them, who had it all. After a further 3 I was still drunk for hours. Even after swimming back on board, I was still dizzy. When Eckhard does something, then he does it really thoroughly. The next day I found out, that 80% rum was involved J Cheers!

IMG_5532

The week went by quickly and on Saturday around half past twelve Maik was already sitting in the taxi to the airport. We had a good week and he was able to soak up some sun for a few days and at least forget about his company for a while. I would prefer to use our guests' smartphones purely for “self-protection”, who come here to relax on board, close it in the safe or deactivate the email function.

In any case, I'm really looking forward to my dive on Monday morning with “INDIGO Divers” and to Katja's return on Monday afternoon J

Back into the sun

Portugal wants to let her live us

Lunchtime, we ended up with a lot of luggage as planned in Faro and later deposed us a taxi to the Marina. Been still busy on the CESARINA, sowohl innen auch als außen 🙂

By the rains in the last few days were the work on the deckhouse unfortunately significantly behind schedule and thus we come away from here in the direction of Canary Islands. At the earliest on Tuesday the carpenters could be finished when weather would play with. Thus, we got the impression, dass uns Portugal einfach nicht ziehen lassen wollte 🙁 Aber auf die paar Tage kam es jetzt auch nicht mehr an und wir fügten uns in unser Schicksal.

Auch die Programmierung unseres AIS wollte am Samstag nicht im ersten Zug gelingen 🙁 und es stellt sich heraus, that a plug was defective. This is of course even better, as if the entire antenna would not work. But it was still annoying. Since today we are but at least www.vesselfinder.com again to find online. While we still lack a beautiful photo, but that I will furnish any day. Sorry, no images are accepted in portrait orientation, so ein Pech aber auch 🙁 Morgen steht also noch ein ordentliches Foto-Shooting auf dem Programm.

Otherwise, the last days have been determined by the weather. Portugal presented itself further with an awful lot of rain autumn. It was great for us to determine, that our repairs were crowned all along the line of success. No more water in the ship, which was previously run by improperly mounted bracket of the liferaft in the interstices of the ceiling and walls. Each cabinet and each compartment – absolutely dry. A great success, of a very relieved wellbeing below deck. One might not always think about it yes, in welchem Schrank das Wasser jetzt gerade wieder irgendwelchen Schäden anrichten könnte 🙂

If we do not continue assorted things below deck and verräumten, was finally time again for a good book – almost like the German Autumn. In the now completed equipped kitchen there was also quite excellent cook and also it was now once again time. Our pressure cooker, which is unused for Grömitz with on the trip, durfte endlich in Aktion treten 🙂 Ich muss gestehen, I am but until then been very suspicious. So far I had not used such a device. With two 11-kilogram gas cylinders on board the buzzer, the incentive was, To save gas by the use of the pressure cooker, always been too low. So I had to push myself successfully before use. Now we have but “the only” two 5-kilogram gas cylinders available. That had me motivated, the first goulash “under pressure” prepare. Although I had decided, prefer to watch my pot during cooking with distance from the salon :-), but the result could be really. So I'll experiment from now on continue. Especially the cooking times are purely a matter of practice. Until I've got the hang of it, We are probably still several times mashed potatoes instead “al dente” essen 🙂

The culmination…..

…was then to visit my husband in Germany. Of course he had let themselves do not take it, meinen Geburtstag mit mir und meinen Eltern im ungemütlichen Deutschland zu verbringen 🙂 Oder sollte der Grund der Deutschlandreise vordergründig doch eher der Besuch der amerikanischen Botschaft in Frankfurt gewesen sein, to apply for our B2 visa personally?

Exactly a week after me Dietmar landed around noon in Cologne. The program for the two days was precisely to the minute clocked. Directly from the airport we went on together, our horses to pay a visit. The family of Talat had let themselves do not take it, to invite the world traveler for lunch. Since I had come last week to enjoy, was I not deny of course this experience Dietmar.

After a short stopover in our apartment and review of orders arrived we had then already back further to Stephie and family. Unsere bestellten Wäschesäcke waren fertig 🙂 Wie ich erwartet hatte, have they become so beautiful. If we she ever will get back, If I would make that somewhere in the Caribbean???

IMG-20151016-WA0001

After a cup of coffee it went to my parents. Good, that was only a small dinner. After the long lunch (Apple baked pork tenderloin in the oven) was still at all, no place for more than a salad. But we've come not just for dinner. By Dietmar 50. Birthday was still a birthday present. The captain is now matching the stylish ship of the proud owner of a guitar. Again and again he had said, He wanted to learn this instrument like. If not now, When then? I'm curious about, wann er mir das erste Ständchen spielen kann 🙂

So the first day fly is gone. On Thursday, my birthday, We had a very special date. An interview at the American Embassy in Frankfurt.

Nevertheless it had located the Mr. Henke not let, with a birthday gift to surprise me great. It was namely for three days in the our living room with the strict prohibition, to open it. Even if the packaging (a banana box) rather to be desired left, was the content yet exactly to my liking:

New pillows with the “Jyoti” (our heraldic animal) canvas for our CESARINA for indoors and outdoors. He has the “Nähstube Maiken cooking” can make in Kiel. Das gefällt der Frau 🙂

11204909_924982757595962_7335659800221836152_n

After the gift was but first final with a cozy birthday celebrate. Through fog, Rain and moved to Frankfurt's rush hour. There, our patience was hard put to the test. To answer three questions personally, had we have to wait almost two hours. Access of the message is secured as …..Access to an American Embassy just. It was controlled everything, significantly stricter than at the airport. Even my measuring tape had to stay outside and also disk and USB flash drives represent a dangerous threat, genau wie die elektronischen Seekarten in Dietmars Rucksack 🙂

But we got all our belongings completely handed out after two hours and could start the journey back to Leverkusen.

To the dinner we brought even the collected documents and the gene field of the SUMMER to the post. Thus, this site for us was well done. Christian, the new owner of the buzzer, We wish you always a Handspan of water under the keel and at least as many delightful hours with the buzzer, how we were able to experience it.

A nice end of the rather strenuous birth day was the joint dinner with my parents in the forest Tavern in Dhünnwald, my absolute favorite restaurant. Who ever is in the Cologne area, dem kann ich einen Besuch nur wärmstens empfehlen 🙂 Auch an diesem Abend war das Essen wieder köstlich und der empfohlene Wein ein Genuss. Even Dietmar had not be able to resist him. So it was after dinner home already peacefully asleep in the springs, while I sorted yet our luggage for the tomorrow's flight and packed together. So I could treat me even a cozy bath, bevor ab morgen wieder die Zeit der öffentlichen Gemeinschaftsduschen beginnt 🙂 Aber man kann ja nicht alles haben 🙂

Fully befuddled

Solvent vapours are not completely foreign to me as a chemist, But today I had a smell experience of a special kind.

Because the weather should be worse this weekend and even rain was announced, had I made me for Saturday, to paint the kitchen cabinets from the inside. Directly after breakfast, I turned the Interior of the CESARINA so again in a battle field, because it had everything back out from the cabinets. Finally everything was empty, was I really impressed with, how much space our new pantry (ship german cuisine) However, bot. Diligently I started, to grind and clean surfaces. I wanted to experience again so not a fiasco like in my first attempts of painting . Everything was prepared, I put the 2-component varnish and began after the wait respect to by 10 Minutes to swing the brush highly motivated.

Actually, the work went me quite easily by hand, but the depth of the cabinets made bothers me a little. The Cabinet underneath the worktop has an impressive width of over a meter more than 60 Cm depth. There, you must creep already in blending, If you want to catch all corners. So kämpfte ich mich hustend im ekligen Gestank durch die Tiefen der Schränke und war nach kurzer Zeit völlig benebelt 🙁 Bald war im ganzen Schiff die Luft so dick, you could cut them into slices. Airing was not possible due to the heavy rain. I had planned this so super – about the odor problem I had made but at all worry me.

Good, that the MIELI was still with us at the pier in Vilamoura.

So we enjoyed a delicious sushi from Japan us still even four. When we in the evening back on the boat were later, the solvent plumes were already as good as gone, and nothing in the way was our night's rest.

Time, to take stock

Undoubtedly some pretty eventful weeks behind us lie for us. Everything could have been simple, would have us not the CESARINA on the way in the Azores. We had to leave everything, as it was and with an admittedly in every respect continue our journey as planned can perfectly equipped ship. Stress-free, worry-free and with plenty of room and time for more excursions, to know how far country and people to learn. But everything was just different and from the very first day the CESARINA has let me think just more "straight". She has captured me and since that day, was I thinking of you, When I went to sleep in the evening and then again when I am aufgewachte. Every day! So it was at that time also, I got to know Katja or was possessed by the desire as I someday, to start a business. Reason or any general conventions are me since always been always been foreign and have always my wish castles and visions subordinate themselves must.

2015_10_03

2015_10_03_5

But the adventure "CESARINA" is somehow playing in another dimension. In contrast to my time as an entrepreneur, I always my ideas and visions could implement in the, because a great team and a strong woman behind me confessed, I stood this time often all alone. Katja had made yet over two months almost daily me, She would get off, If I would stick seriously. She had built it, that the subject over time would burn itself out, If the fever would have laid back. Pieter, the previous owner, had I listed all the disadvantages, that would bring such a ship. He said so aptly, that there is absolutely no rational reason, to decide, but only love and passion could justify this enormous effort. But that was the case and so it was as it had to happen. For two days, the SUMMER's country and we live on our CESARINA.

2015_10_03_1

14 Full work days are now behind us. The first time was in the last three months for a period no longer good with our decision. The reason for this was, I have felt, how much Katja suffers stress induced the ambitious project and the mostly by me. I had the sentence "I can't" only once in the last 15 Is years of her. It was even under the skin. The pace with which we've pushed the conversion of the CESARINA, but it was not bad parents. Which to implement in two months, What we used 2 Years have used, can be considered quite well as "very ambitious". Only at that time, we had engaged a company with the equipment of the SUMMER and today we ourselves are. Yet the fact is, that the SUMMER waiting for a buyer. The long-planned holiday with Katja's mother on Madeira has it on top of that even have to cancel, because the time has not simply would have been sufficient. It was just too much for them and me serious doubts, whether I this time not have exaggerated it. I had offered you, to make your holiday on Madeira with your mother. But leave she didn't want me too. As a wife and partner must think very long search "Man".

2015_10_03_4

Katja's mother will come visit US now so in the Caribbean. There is diving and swimming determined as much fun. Katja has established our CESARINA already very comfortable and beautiful and we look forward to the coming and certainly exciting weeks and distant countries.

2008_04_10_19_52_09-IMGP8030

My dream has become our dream! What could be better? We are good things, finding a new and hopefully happy owner for our SUMMER. Ever the good feeling is back on board, to have everything done right. Also, I can not deny, very proud to be, that we must continue our journey with a such jewel of construction art. Almost every day we come up with other people in the discussion, take our 'vision' for himself as occasion, to work on the implementation of their own dreams. Das muss nicht unbedingt ein Schiff sein 🙂 Einfach nur das Bewusstsein zu haben, It can be very rewarding, If you are trust, einen Schritt ins Ungewisse zu machen 🙂 Auf sein Gefühl zu hören und etwas zu wagen! Es lohnt sich immer 🙂

Between the ships – No easy exercise

Most of the time we are at night too tired, to write more readable for the blog. A large amount of work has broken about us. Here just to inform a small overview, What we have so far been successfully completed:

  • Engine maintenance
  • Generator maintenance
  • Built-in water makers
  • Wind control system installed
  • Navigation almost ready built
  • Expanded toilet pump, cleaned “refitted” and repainted
  • Bow Interior repainted (2x, Since the first color not who was right) In between a day-long quarters the color removed :-()
  • Bilge completely cleaned
  • Cleaned floor boards
  • Cupboards cleaned or repainted
  • Mattresses and cushions clean can
  • Various shelves for cabinets make let
  • Compass housing expanded to the chrome plating
  • Window to expand and new eingedichten can be
  • Let new sails ordered and measured on the ship by NORTH SAILS
  • Serviced life raft and life jackets
  • Create inventory lists
  • The entire House level checked, sorted, merged or sorted out

And in between we are moving also. An easy exercise, because the space on a ship is so clearly limited. More than four craftsmen at once should not be on the CESARINA, otherwise there would at some point be murder and death blow. And when working, at the same time moved. There is simply no chance. Nevertheless it precedes every day, in large, times in small increments.

Today we are in a strange intermediate state. We arrived Yes pretty well and the “Bounce” imminent. The next night is the last on our SUMMER. But we have to have breakfast clearly already on the CESARINA, because on the buzzer, there are no cups or plates more now. You have found over there already a beautiful spot in the closet.

Today's dinner, It should be cooked already on the CESARINA, was still in the water. Access to the stove was designed with tool boxes, that cooking was not safe to do so. And all utensils to carry back on the SUMMER, would have been counterproductive but something. So there was pizza from Pizza Hut today, very practically right out of the box. Und Besteck brauchte man auch nicht 🙂

How to become a member of a Yacht Club

Actually you organized in Germany in clubs, No matter what hobby you go. So we were long time member in a riding club, but for our profession, yet no appropriate Club the way ran us.

Dietmar was also talking with the cheerful troupe of Lord. We are always back again, that like a magnet to people the CESARINA, and almost magically attracts especially sailors. The ARNDT told the crew the Lady at the front desk, dass deren Liegeplatz am Pontoon mit der schönen blauen Yacht liegt 🙂

The men came from Kiel, a Merry-tag crew members of the Kiel Yacht Club (KYC) with the task, to convict a club ship in the Mediterranean Sea. The X-yacht is for 18 Make a round trip with changing crews from Association members months with the mission, Advertising for the city of Kiel as a venue for water sports Olympics 2018 to make. It then went to evening entertainment, We decided to go for dinner. Our history with the two vessels seemed keen interest to have woken up.

12011371_913586675402237_3448653882416086192_n

A short time later we found a nice table in an English pub on the promenade. We both enjoyed it, having once again other interlocutors in the evening and sat so far it went to two Tischenden from each other away, um uns unter die Leute zu mischen 🙂 Ab morgen würde ja wieder mehr oder weniger traute Zweisamkeit herrschen, da musste man den heutigen Abend schon mal auskosten 🙂 Dietmar saß zwischen Hauke Bohnen (Skipper and CEO KYC) and the former tenants of the Dieter's Association Home.

Our life planning and our previous journey woke in which one or other but also wishes and desires with regard to his future life plans. Funnily enough were also two tabs. There was clearly no lack of common themes and the time flew formally.

2

And the evening was later, the round was the merrier.

In the morning at two we were back on the buzzer, While the men further scourged the local.

We were both morning although slightly later than usual on the next, but about ten o'clock, our relocation work continued. Saturday is a good day for us, because all craftsmen have disappeared around noon and we can play us right.

Around noon she made SY ARNDT the way further towards the West. Previously the CESARINA was been admired but still tidy inside and out, Although the current state requires some imagination is all their merits and their beauty to recognize. New membership at the Kiel Yacht Club was only a formality after the night and the request was before breakfast in the Secretariat of the KYC. It had thrashed out yesterday evening on his head Dietmar. Actually very funny, because we regardless of which anyway had chosen Kiel as a home port for our CESARINA.

A quick update

The last few days we have been busy preparing much. Monday we have prepared to once very much for our move, built apart and packed. We were also fond, and on Tuesday three flights finally reach Sao Jorge. The last days were also very nice and instructive.

We spent the first night on our CESARINA from Tuesday to Wednesday. Everything is still new and unfamiliar. Wednesday we then stood in brilliant sunshine in Lake, After we had filled our tanks with diesel. We reached our goal of Terceira almost without wind to 10 Hours only in the dark. During the trip we had examined machine and light wind sail through its paces.

Of Terceira it went after some organizational things on the Donnerstagnachmitttag continue to Sao Miguel. The 100 Miles put in very much wind, we have (up to 34 Node) in knapp 12 Hours behind us brought. Since we wanted to arrive again in the dark, two hours prior to Ponta Delgada in turned and walked at sunrise in the Harbour. Dabei kreuzte sogar ein Pottwal unseren Weg 🙂

After a hearty breakfast and a regular NAP Pieter left yesterday. From now on, we are on our own. We have made already the usual preparations, After further sailing towards mainland. We expect to run properly wind and forward, to be able to enjoy the great sailing behaviour and the speed of our CESARINA again. Let's see, whether we can keep you up to date. Here everything is different and new, aber wir werden versuchen unseren Job ordentlich zu machen 🙂

50 Years and not a bit wise :-)

Today the final preparations for Dietmar birthday had to be made. So it went directly after breakfast with Marita shopping. To the grocery store and then to the Baker, to there for the afternoon to buy special treats. The order proved in hindsight as extremely unfavourable. Although it was still pretty empty at the supermarket, for this, it was so full at the bakery, dass wir nach einer halben Stunde ohne Kuchen von dannen zogen 🙁 In Portugal muss man fast in jedem Laden eine Nummer ziehen, to be served later. Unfortunately, the machine was so well hidden, dass ich die ersten zehn Minuten völlig umsonst in der Schlange stand 🙁 Danach waren bis zu meiner Nummer 12 yet 15 Number to process. Not so much it's a, aber bei der portugiesischen Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit dauerten vier Kunden ungefähr eine Viertelstunde 🙁 Um Konstantin und Anna pünktlich in Faro am Flughafen abholen zu können, konnten wir keine weitere Stunde Wartezeit verkraften 🙂

So we collected our last guest in Faro, who would spend a 25-stündigen getaway in Portugal. A little later we all sat together on the SUMMER with coffee and cake. Actually we were thinking about, to go in the afternoon still karting, but somehow we lacked the time to do so. Es gab einfach zu viel zu erzählen 🙂

11139999_903913686369536_306624373385254766_n

Also the sunshine was coming back in the evening and we were walking on the way into the restaurant “Il Castello”, that was above the Marina on the mountainside and offered a wonderful view over sea and Harbour. In the winter garden was reserved a table for us.

KHX_2530

KHX_2531

The food was wonderful. Emil und Marita hatten uns wirklich gut beraten 🙂

KHX_2559

Unfortunately it led to, that we all completely lose about half eleven o'clock and walked this pretty slow back to the Marina. What should we start just yet until midnight????

And suddenly….We had a birthday. Although the carousel with the six man, somehow more or less square had found it, was quite overloaded, dehte es tapfer quitschend seine Runden 🙂 Der Betreiber quittierte unser Treiben mit einem anerkennenden Lachen. Probably it was no longer used in recent years. Kinder finden sowas ja mittlerweile zu peinlich 🙂

After this fun came to an end, found a great right, new toy. Das war aber eher für Schlangenmenschen geeignet 🙂 Außerdem wollte bzw. could not really stand out of the helicopter with two people because of hopeless overload. Only when Dietmar again out had folded up, Anna was able to fly alone another round.

Somehow it was but still not enough and Reiner was still a suitable toys at the end on the edge of the parking lot. Who has never tried that in his life, will be amazed how much you must apply to sit on the bull. It is not as easy as it looks.

Until it comes up……

……and then it goes down faster again, as it is a sweet.

Da helfen auch keine Reitkünste 🙂

Now we are all really been shaken up and awake. Fully motivated it went back on the SUMMER. Now suddenly only another half hour until midnight was left.

After an ordinary road, it was then so far. Punctually at twelve, I brought the birthday cake with lighted candles (No fifty piece, prefer a discreet happy birthday :-)). Dietmar said only dry, that his cake looks almost like a torchlight procession…….

Außerdem gab es zum weltweiten Gebrauch zwei Quadratmeter Bayern in bester Qualität 🙂 Auch wenn man kein Haus darauf bauen kann, they are very valuable to us and we will keep them in honor. But still pending another gift for the birthday child. It comes only in the course of the day from Germany.
